Abstract

Water resources are being used intensively and many systems have already exceeded the sustainable level of water use. Natural disasters are increasingly frequent and global warming is a reality. Urban areas with high population concentrations have a higher vulnerability and intensity of risks. There is a need to make cities more resilient to natural disasters and climate change, as there is also the need to develop decision support tools that provide a better integrated management of urban water. This project falls in this problematic, proposes an integrated decision support system based on web-mapping of hydrological risks in urban basins, aiming measures to adapt to climate change and a better management of the risks of hydrological disasters. It aims to assembly a database, do simulations and analysis for urban micro-basins of São Carlos. The study will be developed at the Núcleo Integrado de Bacias Hidrográficas (NIBH), EESC, USP-1, and in the future Laboratório de Inovação em Recursos Hídricos (Innovation Lab in Water Resources) (USP-2), which have the necessary facilities and logistics for this project. This research aims to provide a tool to be harnessed and used as a support for the following projects: Marengo Orsini (2009), "Assessment of impacts and vulnerability to climate change in Brazil and strategies for adaptation options", FAPESP thematic project, and Reis(2010), "Monitoring, evaluation of the process of transformation Rain-flow under the qualitative and quantitative aspects, their interrelations with the generation of solid waste and the proposition of compensatory measures in urban sub-basins with different levels of occupancy of the city of São Carlos.", research project FINEP.
