Abstract

This project pertains to the research line "Literacy and intercultural communication" of the Research Group LEETRA (CNPq). It is based on studies on situated literacy(Street, 1993; Hamilton, Barton, Ivanic, 1993; Barton, Hamilton, & Ivanic, 2000; Kleiman, 1995)and on new technologies (Gee, 2004, 2010; Buzato, 2009). Examples of genres derived from new technologies are e-mail, tweet, on-line texts constructed on hyperlinks, which make part of everyday life nowadays. Our main objective implies the investigation on which contemporary discourse genres are accessed by students in non-scholar and extra-class environments, and in what way extra-class activities interfere in learning processes. The methodology is ethnographic, participative and collaborative. We aim at contributing to researching the forms of interaction of students with new literacies and to the renewal of language learning processes. (AU)
