Abstract

The appropriate carbohydrates inclusion and protein sparing effect on fish diets can lead to a reduction about 70% of cost production and the reduction in nitrogen excretion. So, many studies should be done to verify the protein-sparing effects and animal answers. Carbohydrate leads dietary protein targeting mainly for growth. In this sense, pacu (Piaractus mesopotamicus) represents an interesting biological model, since it is a frugivorous animal, allowing a better utilization of carbohydrates. The proposal aims to evaluate sub-optimal levels of protein with increasing levels of carbohydrates to analyze the protein-sparing effect, through the dynamics of energy reserves tissue profile of metabolites in blood and activity of amylase and glucokinase. The experiment will be conducted in a completely randomized design with six treatments (23:40, 19:45, 19:52, 21:38, 21:45, and 21:52% PD:% CHO) and four repetitions. The results will be submitted to analysis of variance (ANOVA), and the averages compared by Tukey test (5%) through the statistical program SAS, version 9.0. (AU)
