Abstract

Pathologies in the oral cavity may cause deleterious effects on several body systems. Following this line of thinking, the presence of bacteria in dental pulp may cause damage to the pulp (LP) and generate inflammation, culminating in the production of inflammatory cytokines including TNF-± and IL-6. So, cytokines may reach the systemic circulation and cause insulin resistance in important organs such as skeletal and muscle tissue. Insulin resistance is defined as a decreased of activity of insulin action in peripheral tissues, and individuals with this are predisposed to develop type 2 diabetes (T2DM). Knowing that the inflammatory cytokines TNF-± and IL-6 can cause changes in insulin signal, it becomes paramount to investigate the possibility of a local inflammatory process such as the LP "per se" cause insulin resistance in nondiabetic individuals. The objective of this project will be evaluating the degree of tyrosine phosphorylation of pp185 (IRS1/IRS2) LP in gastrocnemius skeletal muscle tissue of adults rats with LP. Will be used 30 Wistar rats (2 months old) divided into two groups: a) control rats without the LP; b) rats with LP induced in right molars employing carbon steel drill fitted with a ball on the end (0.1 mm). After 30 days of induction of LP, the animals will be anesthetized for the experiments.
