Abstract

The aims of the project are to continue the integrated study chemical-pharmacological of Brazilian medicinal plants used in folk medicine and inserted in the Program Biota-FAPESP/CNPq - standardized herbal medicines for the treatment of chronic diseases; to establish the chemical profile, to isolate and to characterize the chemical constituents of the hydroalcoholic extract obtained from the leaves of Serjania marginata Casar. (Sapindaceae); to compare the chemical composition of the S. marginata native with the same cultivated species, collected in three periods of the growing cycle, to advance in the research to obtain of standardized herbal medicines and assess the acute toxicity and the antiulcer activity of the hydroalcoholic extract, enriched fractions and isolated substance(s). Pharmacognostic and chemical steps will performed in the Department of Chemistry at UNESP-Araraquara and will include the collection and processing of plant material, extraction, chromatographic screening, isolation and identification of substances, comparing the chemical composition of native plant with the cultivated and chemical standardization of extracts; the pharmacological step will be performed in the Department of Physiology at the Biosciences Institute of UNESP-Botucatu and will encompass the toxicity study and evaluation of antiulcer activity, using models of ethanol-induced gastric ulcers, the use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory, by acetic acid and ligation of the pylorus, besides morphological and immunohistochemical analysis.
