Abstract

Since the 90s, a new family of molecules as protein and hormonal characteristics has been characterized in plants. This group of new molecules, collectively called peptide hormone, is involved with defense, reproduction, growth and development. RALF, which is one of these new peptides, is ubiquitous in plants and is involved in plant development. Little is known about the relationship between RALF peptides and other hormones. In Arabidopsis there are 34 genes similar to RALF, ATRALF1 to 34. The overexpression of AtRALF23 AtRALF1 and generated plants with a semi-dwarf phenotype and prevents the typical response of brassinosteroids BL. Recently, our group found that RALF is internalized via endocytosis. This fact also relates RALF to BL, whereas its receptor, BRI1, is also endocytosed. Due to the antagonistic action of superexpressores AtRALF1 to the BL, and as discovered, the common use of the mechanism of endocytosis for signaling, we investigated the perception of the mutants to BL as the internalization of AtRALF1. The mutant bak1 that encodes a co-receptor of the BL did not internalize the peptide and showed as little marking typical membrane of cells treated with AtRALF1 marked. These data indicate an involvement of protein BAK1 in the perception of AtRALF1. The project goal is to elucidate the mode of action of RALF. We seek to understand the relationship between the hormone AtRALF1 and BL particularly with regard to both use the membrane protein receptor BRI1 associated kinase 1, BAK1, as part of the mechanism of perception.
