Increase the productivity of lettuce in summer is one of the biggest challenges of horticulture, especially the lettuce. Straw-tillage of cover crops is a technique that has been studied recently for various vegetables. For the lettuce crop, the tillage of cover crops can reduce the effects of summer weather, and provide a more sustainable production system. The experiment is a randomized block and the treatments are arranged in split plots, with the main plot, the evaluation of two management (cover crops desiccated with glyphosate or mowing) and the subplot six cover crops (Cajanus cajan cv . IAPAR 43, Crotalaria spectabilis, C. juncea, Mucuna sp, Pennisetum glaucum and natural vegetation) in a randomized block design with four replications. Additionally, a witness with bare ground, weeded, will be evaluated. Will be evaluated two crop cycles of lettuce on the same land cover and impacts of management practices on crop productivity, incidence of weeds, straw decomposition and soil temperature. The data will be submitted to analysis of variance and means compared by Tukey test at 5% probability
