Abstract

This research aims to discuss the next steps and concerns for the post-human condition, highlighting the transmutation of what we are used to call objects. In a very short time, microchips will become so abundant that intelligent systems will be scattered in every corner of our environment, implanted in walls, furniture, our appliances, our home, our car, penetrating the fabric of our lives. Environments will become intelligent, transforming everything around us. Things that surround us, somehow, will turn into communicative beings. Information will jump to the objects, architecture, clothes and bodies. A generation of intelligent technologies - from cars to refrigerators - will learn to anticipate and act autonomously based on discernible patterns. Due to these changes the last ramparts of the old epistemological dichotomies between subject and object will eventually collapse? This research aims to put in question these dichotomies by exploring the key aspects of contemporary materialism, also known as speculative realism, as it presents a potential to build bridges between oppositions which, until recently, philosophy would have considered insurmountable.
