The studies about urban climate can contribute to the planning of cities, because they provide information for understanding the factors that generate differences between the urban and rural atmosphere, especially about the temperature and air humidity. In this sense, this research has as objective to detect intra-urban thermal anomalies and their magnitudes, relating the geoecology and geourban attributes and the generation of heat island phenomenon in Presidente Prudente/SP city. The study is based on the theory elaborated by Monteiro (1976) - Urban Climate System, with focus on the thermodynamic subsystem. The meteorological data has been collected by automatic meteorological stations using "Vantage PRO 2" from "Davis Instruments", installed in representative places of the urban and rural areas in Presidente Prudente. Concomitant to the field works, analysis of the regional atmospheric systems will be made to compare differences of temperature and air humidity between the field and the city according to the types of weather. Also, letters of urban surface temperatures will be elaborated from the Landsat 7 ETM image. According the results obtained, it intends to subsidize the territorial planning policies with the intention of contributing for the improvement of environmental quality in the city studied.
