Abstract

This research aims to analyze the trajectory of cultural heritage preservation in Jacareí/SP, seeking evidence in what way the city's cultural assets have been selected and overseen by the state agency for preservation, the Council for the Defense of the Historical, Archaeological, Artistic and Touristic Heritage in the State of São Paulo. Thus, from the study of all properties listed by CONDEPHAAT in Jacareí - composed of a religious building (Capela Nossa Senhora dos Remédios), an industrial building (Manufacture de Tapetes Santa Helena), and a noble house (Solar Gomes Leitão), the research will seek to show what were the reasons and criteria that supported the action of the state agency in the selection and protection of these assets, which the agents involved in this process and what current courses of actions to maintain the buildings properly conserved and participants to the construction of the city's memory. The research aims to provide insight into understanding the heritage formation in Jacareí, paving the way for the disclosure of demands and aspirations of local people regarding the CONDEPHAAT performance in the city and the identification of new assets to be safeguarded.(AU)
