Effect of different thickness, techniques of application and cooling rates in the fracture resistance of veneering ceramics applied over Y-TZP coping

Abstract

This research aims to evaluate in vitro the influence of cooling rate, the application technique and the thickness of veneering ceramic on fracture resistance in all-ceramic crowns with zirconia infrastructure. It will be done 100 crowns that will be divided into 10 groups (n = 10), where 80 samples will be divided into 8 groups according to the mode of application (stratified technique and pressed technique), thickness (1 mm and 2 mm) and cooling rate (10° C/s and 50° C/s) of two types of veneering ceramic. The other 20 crowns will be done by the Rapid Layer Technology technique and will be divided into two groups according to the thickness of veneering ceramic (1 mm and 2 mm). The thickness of the zirconia infrastructure of all crowns will be 0.5 mm. All specimens shall be mechanically cycled with a load of 84 N for 2.106 cycles at a frequency of 3.4 Hz and temperature of 37ºC. The presence or absence of chipping will be determined through analysis in stereomicroscope and Scanning Electron Microscopy. Then, all specimens would be submitted to resistance test of axial compression at a speed of 0.5 mm/min. The data will be subjected to statistical analysis using STATISTIX and MINITAB programs. (AU)
