Abstract

It is known that there is no standardization in relation to the translation of terms of the typical Brazilian cuisine in the English language, a problem that leads to misunderstanding and mischaracterization of that cultural aspect. In order to fill this gap, this research aims to survey the most frequent keywords in the text of authentic Brazilian cuisine in Portuguese, find their equivalents and / or definitions used in the English language, validate them or propose solutions, when considered appropriate. To achieve this goal, a comparable corpus of texts originally written in Portuguese and English will be compiled. This corpus will be analyzed semi-automatically, with the help of computational tool. The theoretical foundation will be based on Corpus Linguistics, Terminology, Translation and Cultural Studies.
