Abstract

The increase in human and canine lymphoma cases in the last decades makes the comparison between them very important since both species share the same environment and are exposed to the similar environmental contaminants. Such features make the dog a very useful biological sentinel. Lymphomas are among the most common canine cancers and have several similar features with human lymphomas. Consequently, lymphoma classification systems in dogs are based on the human counterpart. Several classification systems were proposed for humans and canines. However, there is no consensus on which classification system must be used for canine lymphomas. The aim of this study is to use the recent Histological Classification of Hematopoietic Tumors of Domestic Animals (WHO) (WHO). The results are going to be compared with those of the updated Kiel Classification using immunohistochemistry (ki-67, Caspase-3, and p53 antibodies) using tissue microarrays (TMA) and complete biopsy slides. Additionally, the efficiency of PAX5 BSAP (B cell specific activator protein) marker over CD79 alpha is going to be evaluated.
