Abstract

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a heterogeneous clinical symdrome caused by insulin depletion production by pancreatic beta cells or defects in insulin receptor from target cells, resulting in hyperglycemic metabolic disease. Gestational Diabetes causes fetal disturbs, such as excessive fetal growth (macrosomic), due higher glucose availability and growth factors stimulation. The higher birth weight is associated with higher risk to develop insulin resistance, obesity and type 2 DM in late life. Diabetes also affect the male reproductive system, specially testis and sex accessory glands. Besides many studies about diabetes effects on testicular function and fertility, the impact of gestational diabetes on prostate morphogenesis and maturation is still limited. The aim of this study is to evaluate the effects of gestational diabetes on prostate development, morphogenesis and maturation of prostate gland. It will be investigate the processes of cell proliferation and death, the gene and protein expression of androgen receptor and prostatein, an androgen regulated secretory protein in the ventral lobe from 60 and 120 days-old Wistar rats. It will be done morphological, morphometrical, immunohistochemical analyses associated with western blotting and RT-PCR reactions. (AU)
