Abstract

In order to study environmental changes that may promote an improvement in facilities for broilers, two experiments will be conducted in order to evaluate the influence of types of coatings in reducing air temperature, and substitution of chicken bed for plastic flooring similar to that used in pig farms, improving air quality and animal performance. The assessment of the types of coverage will be performed on prototypes of polystyrene, evaluating cement and simple galvalume tiles with double layering, varying the spacing between layers (1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 cm), totaling 12 treatments. To evaluate the replacement of the plastic bed on the floor, the experiment will be conducted in a climate chamber, two cameras will be used, one will use wood shavings and other plastic flooring. Daily air quality will be monitored through data loggers, recording the concentration of O2 (oxygen), NH3 (ammonia) and CO (carbon monoxide), CH4 (methane) and NO (nitric oxide), also evaluating the performance of birds in the different systems, noting weight gain, feed intake, feed conversion, viability, production meat/m², breast, thigh and footpad skin lesions. To compare the tiles an analysis of variance and the Scott-Knott test at 1% significance level and Tukey test at 5% significance will be conducted for the data of weekly weight gain, feed intake, feed conversion, productivity. For the analysis of the chest, knee and foot pad lesions, it will be used the Wilcoxon and Kruskal-Wallis test. The assessment of air quality parameters will be performed by comparison of media and by non-parametric Mann-Whitney or Kruskal-Wallis. The interrelation between variables will be accomplished through correlation and regression analysis.
