Abstract

This project aims to determine manganese in water (and liquid waste streams) around the Osamu Utsumi uranium mine, located in the municipality of Caldas, south-central region of the Poços de Caldas - MG, using the technique of Diffusion Gradient in Thin Films (DGT). Initially, the DGT technique will be applied in the laboratory for the analysis of samples collected in the study area. In these experiments, conventional agents (polyacrylamide hydrogel and the resin Chelex 100) will be used. Also, some alternative materials such as agarose gel, cellulose, and/or cationic exchange membrane (P 81) will be used. For alternative diffusive material, the diffusion coefficient of Mn will be determined. Subsequently, the liquid waste and streams surrounding the mine will be studied using in situ measurements of Mn.(AU)
