Abstract

Periodontitis is an infectious chronic inflammatory disease that affects the supporting tissues (gums) and support (cementum, periodontal ligament and alveolar bone) of the teeth, in other words, the periodontium. Like other infections, periodontal pathogens have been considered candidates for triggering the inflammatory response in atherosclerosis. Moreover, it has been proposed that periodontitis patients have high circulating levels of some systemic markers of inflammation, such as interleukins 1, 6 and 10 (IL-1, IL-6 and IL-10) and tumor necrosis factor- ± (TNF-±). In humans, several recent studies conclude that periodontitis itself increases the serum levels of these inflammatory cytokines. However, in dogs has not found work by measuring the levels of these cytokines in patients with periodontitis or gingivitis. This study aims to evaluate the level of cytokine (IL-1, IL-6, IL-10, TNF-±) before and after periodontal treatment in dogs.(AU)
