Abstract

Previous studies showed a high prevalence of depression and anxiety in medical students with emotional stress levels considerably higher than in the general population. This chronic stress triggers a psycho-physiological imbalance and to combat it is needed extra energy resources for rehabilitation. Burnout syndrome is characterized by strong stress, associated with the presence of three basic symptoms: emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, and reduced job satisfaction. The aim of this study is to describe the frequency of burnout syndrome dimensions among students in the 5 and 6 grades of the medical school of the University of Vale do Paraíba-SP. Students will undergo a self-evaluation questionnaire (MBI-SS), and also, a sociodemographic questionnaire that aims to analyze the main risk factors for triggering the syndrome. The research results will contribute to improving the medical students' quality of life, and propose actions aimed at the needs of students, related to mental health and quality of life.(AU)
