Abstract

Ariana Souza Borges was a interning at the "Grupo de Pesquisas em Produtos Naturais da UNIFRAN" (GPNUF - UNIFRAN) in 2008. During the entire year of 2009, she was a fellow of FAPESP and is currently finishing his master's project started in 2010, also with aid of FAPESP scholarship. In these years, the student has acquired experience in the isolation of secondary metabolites, especially diterpenes from oil-resin of Copaifera langsdorffii, and also in the development and validation of analytical methodologies. Knowledge of the chemical and biological potential represented by the oil-resin of all species of Brazilian Copaifera is essential for a better utilization of this valuable natural resource, however there is much to accomplish. Thus, given the need to develop further chemical-biological studies on Copaifera species and aiming a better use of expertise and experience obtained by the candidate over the years, is very appropriate to suggest the migration of Ariana to "doutorado direto". In this proposal, it is suggested that these further studies should be performed with the addition of another specie (Copaifera trapezifolia) to the initial masters proposal. With this in mind, this research project consists in a reformulation of the original one and includes new data and justification about the new Copaifera specie to be studied. (AU)
