Abstract

This project searchs to use the samba as documentary source capable to disclose the dynamic geographic of Rio de Janeiro enters the years of 1921 and 1942. This musical sort involved different social classrooms proving its fort to be able of communication. Having its varied roots (lundus, maxixes) the samba was born between the poor persons and blacks and was, for much time, forbidden in the social life until the first years it century XX. However, in less than two decades, it if it also becomes the maximum symbol of the national culture representing Brazil in the screens of Hollywood. To search to understand this "turn", this "mystery", in the aid to understand the different mechanisms, cultural politicians social and who had been in game in the formation of the samba. E this construction will also be able in disclosing to part of the complexity and contradictions to them of the social and space relations, of the conflicts and adjustments that the population of Rio de Janeiro lived ahead of a new urbanization, each time more worried about the modernization of the territory and its valuation and, consequently, one more acute socioespacial segregation. That is, through this musical manifestation we will search approaching in them to daily the urban one lived, over all, for the groups poor. In the thematic ones of the songs we will search to locate the new arrangements brought for the way of living of the cities. The chosen period in such a way conjugates important transformations in the universe of the samba how much in the urban changes. It is exactly the moment where the cultural industry is born strong supported in popular music and urban e, at the same time, the city suffers great urbanísticas changes. In 1921 the Morro do Castelo (local of tenement houses and laborers) is arrasado with the justification to give space to the workmanships of the International Exposition of 1922.
