In the Republic of São Thome and Principe, Santomé is by far the language with more speakers (circa 140.000), although it has been losing ground for Portuguese, which is the official language. Historically, Santomé is the only autochthone Creole regularly used in writing. However, in a context of timid standardization efforts, one of the major tasks yet to be fulfilled is the publication of a reference dictionary, although there were some progresses in the last few years, especially Fontes (2007) and Rouge (2004). Thus, the main goal of this project is to publish a bilingual Santomé-Portuguese/Portuguese-Santomé Dictionary. Apart from that, all the details about the lexicographic work will be presented in a foreword. This Dictionary intends to be useful to linguists as well as to the community of São THome and Principe. The work, written in Portuguese, will contain about 4.500 entries, a substantial improvement from the previous works. The entries were collected in fieldwork in São Thome and Principe and from a variety of printed sources (Negreiros 1895, Valkhoff 1966, Ferraz 1979, Rougé 2004, inter alia). The Dictionary will be written using the official alphabet (ALUSTP) (Pontífice et al. 2009). Each entry will show the graphic form, a phonetic transcription, part of speech, the equivalent in Portuguese and some encyclopedic information (such as scientific name, idioms) and examples, as showed: alêdunha [ale+duNa] (n.) Doninha. Animal da família Mustelidae.alfabaka [alfa+baka] (n.) Alfavaca. Piperomia pellucida.algudon [algu+dõ] (n.) Algodão.aliba [+aliba] 1. (n.) Capim. 2. (n.) Erva.aliba-blaboza [+aliba bla+bOza] (n.) Babosa. Aloe vera.kudji [ku+dZi] 1. (v.) Responder. Kudji ome. Casar (viver maritalmente). 2. (v.) Cozinhar. The Portuguese-Santomé part will contain the data from a reverse list. (AU)
