New surfaces treatments influence on fatigue resistance of Y-TZP infrastructures and porcelain veneered crowns

Abstract

The objective of this study is to investigate different surface treatments effects on Y-TZP infrastructure and feldspathic ceramic veneered crowns inner surface on fracture resistance, and to set the average number of mechanical cycles required for failure and their reliability coefficients and characteristic number of cycles to the joint failure. For this, 125 preparations will be machined in epoxy resin that will receive Y-TZP infrastructure by CAD/CAM system and veneered by feldspathic ceramic crowns. Five surface treatments will be tested (n=25): G1 and G5- cleaning with isopropyl alcohol; G2- overglaze applying; G3- 110¼m Al2O3 particles sandblasting; G4-30 ¼m SiO2 particles sandblasting. The crowns from G1 to G4 will be cemented to the respective preparations with resin cement and G5 will be cemented with zinc phosphate cement. The fatigue strength will be evaluated by the number of mechanical cycles required for specimens fracture under functional masticatory load. Failure mode will be observed in stereomicroscope and scanning electron microscopy and the results will be statistically analyzed by ANOVA and Tukey's test (5%). The results will also be analyzed by Weibull nonparametric statistics. The data obtained will be discussed in front of pertinent literature. (AU)
