Abstract The searching for new materials with clinical applicability in surgeries and bucomaxilofacial bone reconstructions is relevant if we consider the materials that are used routinely, such as titanium, which limits the process of absorption and osteoinduction. Then, the interest for the poly(L-lactic acid)-derived polymers has been emerged for such applicability due to their biocompatibility, once they exhibit good absorption and low rates of inflammatory response. Even with these advantages, the cytotoxic and genotoxic effects of PLA-derived materials remain unknown. In the present study, the objectives are to evaluate the cytotoxic and genotoxic effects of PLA exposure using an in vitro experimental model with Chinese hamster ovary cell line (CHO-K1). Cytotoxicity will be evaluated by the colorimetric method of XTT and clonogenic assay, while genotoxicity will be evaluated using the alkaline version of comet assay and the micronucleus test in binucleated cells. It will be considered for all analysis the experimental group exposed to titanium discs, as well as the negative and positive controls. | |
