Abstract

The objective of this project is to investigate the behavior at elevated temperatures of cold-formed steel members by means of parametric analysis via numerical modeling. In the present work three-dimensional numerical models of compressed cold formed steel elements will be elaborated. Through parametric analysis it will be investigated the influence of variables such as, elements' sizes, type of cross section, conditions exposition to fire, load level, on the structural behavior of compressed cold formed steel elements when submitted to high temperatures. Also it is intended to asses the representativeness of the results obtained by means of simplified design methods prescribed in normative procedures for the design of these elements. With the completion of this work it is expected establish a consistent numerical modeling strategy to better understand the behavior at elevated temperatures of cold-formed steel members, as well as contribute to the improvement of normative recommendations.
