Abstract The popular knowledge about the therapeutic activity of natural products has attracted the attention of the academic community in the search for new molecules and potential new drugs. The Cerrado is home to a wide variety of plants with potential medicinal use, the "cipó-una", as it is popularly called, or Arrabidaea brachypoda is used to treat chronic pain, joint pain and kidney stones. Studies have shown the presence of some substances such as phytosterols, flavonoids and tannins in its leaves and roots. This project proposes to investigate the alleged antiulcerogenic activity of the hydro-alcoholic extract of roots of the species Arrabidaea brachypoda. Recent studies have demonstrated the effectiveness of its extract in experimental models of pain and inflammation. Moreover, a previous study showed the presence of flavonoids and phenolic acids in hydro-alcoholic extract of the roots of Arrabidaea brachypoda. Thus, it is very promising to study its anti-ulcer activity. Moreover, peptic ulcer affects a large number of patients and the treatments currently available are limited, thus the search for new therapeutic alternatives is, at least appropriate. For this study, ulcers in male Wistar rats will be induced according to various models that resemble the main causes of ulcers in humans (alcohol, drugs, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory and accumulation of duodenal and gastric secretions). We will assess the effect of the extract of Arrabidaea brachypoda at various doses compared to a control group. The results will be analyzed by counting the lesions and assessing biochemical parameters to determine the pharmacological mechanisms of action of the extract. | |
