Abstract

This investigation is part of a research projected, that received a Grant from FAPESP (2011/10000-2), entitled "Randomized clinical trial - the use of SpeechEasy in stuttering treatment". The purpose of this investigation - automatic speech task - is to look more closely at one of the speech variables that will be investigated in mother Project. The study "Speech fluency analyses in an automatic speech task" will compare the performance of individuals who stutter in two speech tasks: colloquial automatic speech (days of the week, months, year, counting from 1 to 10, telling full name and own address - although this type of automatic speech induces fluent speech, it requires attention and pausing control) and singing (Happy Birthday to You and another song of personal choice - a more propitious condition to promote speech fluency for those who stutter because there is practically no self-expressive component in the text. The text is already formulated and speech rhythm is given by the melody of the song). The hypothesis of the research is that colloquial automatic speech will present a higher number of speech disruptions than the singing task.(AU)
