Abstract

In this project, we intend to study the action of exopolysaccharides from microalgae Cryptomonas tetrapirenoidosa in Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) films mounted with the lipid DODAB under several conditions to be made a biosensor capable of detecting and remove pollutants metals from aqueous solutions. The lipid is spread on the air-water interface, and the microalgae extract is injected into the aqueous subphase. So, the monolayer is transferred to a solid substrate resulting the LB film. These films will have their capacity to adsorb metals tested and characterized by spectroscopic and microscopic techniques. It will also be tested the possibility of fabrication of a urea sensor through the enzyme urease, whose affinity for microalgae extracts will be tested. The adsorption of the extracts will be evaluated through measures of pressure and surface potential, kinetic curves of adsorption, infrared interface, and atomic force microscopy. Results will be evaluated from the perspective of possible biological implications, inferred from the effects caused by the extracts in artificial membranes. (AU)
