Abstract

This project is aimed at analyzing the role of interpreter of Libras (Brazilian Sign Language) classes in regular elementary school - Cycle I (1st to 5th grade). The interpreter, according to public policy, must be suitably qualified for this purpose. Because of these requirements, this guy becomes scarce. Therefore, we intend to investigate how it has affected the role of the interpreter of Libras in public schools in the city of Bauru. The goal is to perform a procedure of observation and recording practices of educational interpreters in the classroom, check for collaboration between the conductor and teacher training, and review their practice with regard to teaching strategies and communication with the deaf student comparing them with the literature. The research will be developed over a period of ten months and as a methodology, we opted for a qualitative approach, with characteristics of a case study, with the instrument to collect data from interviews with the performers and record the observation in the classroom. It is composed of subjects of this research for educational interpreters and teachers interpreter in two public schools in the city of Bauru, being a city and another state. To support possible analyzes of the issue at hand before starting the discussion on the role of the interpreter in the school education of the deaf child, the theoretical foundation that will support the analysis of the results, discuss concepts and classifications of the different degrees of deafness, the main methods used the education of deaf children, periods of language acquisition as well as a brief explanation regarding terminology: deaf and hearing impaired.(AU)
