Abstract

The population of asinine and mules is very expressive in Brazil, despite the technological progress and mechanization of agriculture in recent years. Maybe this population stability is due to the fact that these animals continue to play an important role in agriculture, sport, and leisure. These animals, even today, are the main means of transport in areas of difficult access and use by communities in need. In sports, participate in cavalcade competitions and march with relevant contributions in Brazil. Skeletal muscle is part of the mechanism used by these animals to develop propulsive force in the performance of movements during labor and traction, cargo transportation, and exercise. The techniques of histochemistry and immunohistochemistry assist in the differentiation of different types of skeletal muscle fibers and the determination of oxidative and glycolytic potential. Will be used approximately 20 asinine, 40 mules, and 20 horses used in crossing with asinine with the goal to characterize and determine the variations existing the structural composition and biochemistry of my fibers of the gluteus medius muscle by means of histochemical techniques and immunohistochemistry, identifying the possible variations between species and sex and, subsequently, all will be compared with results obtained from their progenitors and/ or with animals same breeds of progenitors.(AU)
