Abstract

This research project aims to conduct a contrastive analysis between the women's representation in Alice's Adventures in Wonderland (1865), written by Lewis Carroll (1832-1878) and three of his hipotexts: Speaking Likenesses (1874 ), by Christina Rossetti, The Wallypug of Why (1895), by G. E. Farrow and Alice in the Delighted States (1928) by Edward Hope. Considering whether the triad author / text / reader as an essential passport for the literature as a cultural manifestation exist, as postulated by Cândido (1985), it is because it has a language charged with meaning (POUND, 1990, p. 32) that allow the reader to perform "the act of raising his head," proposed by Roland Barthes. Based on the analysis of the persuasion techniques used by Alice, his construction as a menippean anti-heroine and a corpora directed to a comparison among Alice and her otherness, this research aims to show the construction of the female character in Carroll's novel and its otherness, in order to observe the similarities and differences between the protagonists. Therefore, we will study what concerns gender identity, here with three of their ideals created by men, and one by a woman, which has a different experience from men, allowing new questions and discovering new horizons of expectation (ZOLIN, 2009, p. 217 cited in Millet, 1970).
