Abstract

This application of research internship abroad is part of regular FAPESP Fellowship (2010/51849-8), developed by the candidate at NEPAM-UNICAMP and supervised by Dr. Lúcia da Costa Ferreira. In her post-doctoral research, the candidate seeks to identify and analyze the needs and challenges involved in the management process of risk situations on the São Paulo Coast, Brazil. She also seeks to understand how people respond to possible risks and problems associated with climate and environmental change, to the possible conflicts involved in recent urban expansion and to the available knowledge about these risks. In order to improve the analysis of her results, and amplify the debate of risk communication, perception and governance through contact with international experiences, it is proposed a research internship at Interdisciplinary Research Unit on Risk Governance and Sustainable Technology Development (ZIRN), Stuttgart University, under the supervision of Dr. Ortwin Renn. Part of her research internship's activities will be also developed at Dialogik Institute, headed by Dr Renn. The candidate will have the opportunity to improve her intellectual debate, and to learn about international experiences on risk governance, communication and perception. In addition, she will assimilate new theoretical perspectives, methodological approaches and possibilities of participatory research as well as strategies of public engagement and risk communication which will be analyzed and improved considering the Brazilian reality, and will be put into practice in her studies.
