Abstract

The Lebanese civil war that occurred between 1975 and 1990, is the result of a failed policy of division of powers between different faith groups, Maronite Christians, Druze, and Muslims has promoted in the days when Lebanon was a province of the Ottoman Empire and, indirectly, in the worldwide context of the Cold War and regional with the creation of the State of Israel in 1948. This war was marked by the presence of militias, representatives of parties linked to the main religious groups in the country, the instability of its alliances, the Israeli invasion in 1978 and 1982, aimed at the eradication of one of these militias, the PLO, and even for regular the massacres, which we exemplify through episodes of Karantina and Sabra and Shatila and the destruction of the Lebanese capital, Beirut. We will seek to consider how Veja magazine, a periodical review of longer range and circulation in Brazil, discussed the conflict and where the picture was offered to readers from this analysis. It is intended to consider the views of the journal on the civil war, for reasons of its inception, the policy of alliances between the militias involved, the Israeli intervention in 1978 and again in 1982, the massacre of Sabra, and Shatila. Another approach is like the magazine dealt with the end of the war in the late 1980s, whose main legacy was the dismal situation of the Lebanese and the capital Beirut and more than a decade later, what was the court's Magazine on the Israeli invasion in 2006 and about the situation of the political system of Lebanon after the civil war.
