Abstract This project is intended to be a contribution to research on the origins of Brazilian development economics, having Roberto Simonsen's economic thought as a starting point. The aim is to articulate Simonsen's thought with planning economics. Planning economics is here understood as an international movement that questioned orthodox economics predominant in the first half of the 20th century. This generation of economists included authors of various nationalities, united by the recognition of the importance of the study of economic history as a way to support proposals of economic intervention by the state. In order to achieve this aim, the methodological approach adopted emphasizes the historical context, in which the formulation of economic ideas takes place. In this sense, I intend to study Simonsen's institutional conduct (chapter 1), the evolution of the concepts of history and planned industrialization across his works (chapter 2), in order to allow for an articulation with planning economics as an international tendency which breaks with economic orthodoxy (chapter 3). I intend to use the original works of the authors, contemporary periodicals in which economic discussions were held and the documents available in the "arquivo Roberto Simonsen", located in the IFCH/Unicamp.
