Abstract This research aims to keep on doing the theoretical description and analysis of argument structures of Karitiana language (which is a Tupi language spoken today by approximately 400 people in the Northwestern state of Rondonia, Brazil.), initiated by Rocha (2011) in his master degrees survey. At this stage of the project, the research goal is to study the argument structures in subordinate clauses, focusing on subordination: relative clauses, complement clauses, adverbial clauses, and non-finite clauses in general (copular complement (small clause nominalized by morpheme {i-}), universal quantification, demonstrative structures); to study the interaction between verbal valence and aspect functional heads in different types of subordinate clauses; to test whether exists or not the (co-)occurrence of morphemes of verbal valence in subordinate structures or in non-finite clauses in general. Finally, the presented research intends to do an analysis of facts described by formalist theories of argument structure of Hale and Keyser (2002) and Pylkkänen (2008). | |
