Abstract

Prevalence of cardiovascular diseases in Persian cats is high, and this breed is considered to be an experimental model for human diseases such as hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and polycystic kidney disease. Since electrocardiogram and blood pressure assessment are both accessible and important diagnostic methods for cardiovascular diseases, the standardization of these parameters is very important. There will be evaluated at least 20 cats, from private catteries, males or females, aged 18 months or more, whose healthiness will be assessed by physical examination, laboratorial tests, electrocardiogram and echocardiography, in addition to systemic blood pressure determination. For the electrocardiographic exam, it will be used ECG electrocardiograph ECAFIX ® Model 6, and for the determination of systolic blood pressure (SBP) it will be used a non-invasive method, Parksmedical ® model 811-B a Doppler ultrasound device. The results will be tabulated and the standardization will be performed.(AU)
