The society has been transforming and changing their lifestyle. These changes affect mainly the development of eating habits and physical activity, leading to excess calories and sedentary lifestyle, thus promoting obesity. Surgical treatment for obesity (bariatric surgery) is a process that aims to get rid of excess weight with minimal loss of muscle mass. Candidates for bariatric surgery have mostly a picture of disability in various vitamins and minerals, where in the postoperative period due to altered patterns of food after surgery can compromise the effective absorption due to the limitation imposed by this procedure. The total or partial loss of teeth affects the nutritional status and disrupts the lives and health of the individual. The association between tooth loss, decreased food intake and poor diet is common in edentulous patients, with or without dental prosthesis. Thus, the patient starts to consume more food soft and easy to be chewed, which compromises general health. The aim of this study is to evaluate the serum ferritin levels before and after surgery to identify whether a relation with tooth loss in these patients. The sample will consist of selected patients treated at the clinic and Bariatric Surgery Hospital Amaral Carvalho, located in the city of Jau / SP and that have already performed the procedure. For the data analysis are selected patients who have a minimum of three months of the procedure. Data will be collected through a form duly made for research, where the recorder will transcribe the information from medical records of individuals included in the study. The data collected will be organized and annotated with double entry in the program files for Mac Excel 2011. The presentation of results will consist of a descriptive part, in the form of tables and graphs, in which the data (variables) are presented as mean and standard deviation. Statistical analysis will be initially applied the test of normality and homogeneity of data, and then used the appropriate statistical test, adopting a significance level of 5%.
