Abstract

The neonatal asphyxia can be defined as a reduction in serum levels of oxygen and nutrient supply to the vital organs of the newborn. The hypoxic-ischemic damage not only affect neurological development, but also the gastrointestinal tract of the newborn. Biomarker studies have presented several alternatives for early diagnosis in infants with inflammatory and infectious diseases of the gastrointestinal tract from ischemic lesions. Among these markers, intestinal fatty acid fatty acid-binding protein (I-FABP) has been considered a good indicator for the diagnosis of intestinal injury and therefore its use in the experimental model of neonatal asphyxia in rats may bring subsidies for the development of an early diagnosis of diseases of the gastrointestinal tract from the ischemic process as necrotizing enterocolitis and also clarify whether the levels of damage or improvement caused by subsequent reperfusion may be related to the respiratory process. For development of the survey will be used pups of Sprague-Dawley newborn at term (21.5 days of gestation) and preterm (20.5 days of gestation), divided into two large groups which in turn are subdivided into four groups (n = 96): EC (External Control), VEC (Ventilated External Control), A (Asphyxia), AV (Asphyxia + Ventilation). The samples will be collected for morphometric, morphological, immunohistochemical analysis and western blotting. The values obtained are evaluated and the statistical differences are considered when p <0.05. (AU)
