Abstract

Parasites were recently recognized as important components of the global biodiversity, because of the important roles played by these organisms in natural ecosystems. Although knowledge about the diversity of parasites has increased in recent decades, there are still many species to be identified. Thus, the aim of this project is to conduct a survey of the biodiversity of metazoan parasites of 18 fish species from the Sapucaí-Mirim River, São Paulo State, Brazil. Collections will be conducted at Sapucaí-Mirim River, near the municipalities of Guara and São Joaquim da Barra, São Paulo State, Brazil. Four collections will be made, during the period of two years (2012 and 2013). The collections will be carrying out in different seasonal periods, one during the summer and another during the winter of each year. In each collect will be caught 10 specimens of each fish species. All fish specimens will be photographed and parasites were analyzed using a computerized system for image analysis. The following parameters of the parasite communities will be analyze: prevalence, mean abundance, mean intensity of infection, the pattern of parasite species distribution, dominance, richness and diversity.
