Abstract

The project provides for the application of molecular phylogenetic species of sections Acarposporophytum, Aristata and Macrospora of the Batrachospermum genus, associated with the morphological characterization using the criteria usually applied, as well as others to be proposed. Based on information currently available (morphological and molecular) on representatives of the sections, the following general hypotheses are tested: 1) Each section represents a monophyletic group within the genus Batrachospermum, 2) the species currently recognized in each section based on morphological characters will be supported by molecular data. To test these hypotheses proposes the following general objectives: 1) to infer phylogenetic relationships, as well as the limits of interpopulation variation of the species within these three sections and among these, as well as other sections of the genus, based on comparison sequences of three molecular markers: two plastid markers - rbcL encoding the large subunit of RUBISCO) and UPA ("universal plastid amplicon") and a mitochondrial marker (region of "barcode" cox 1 gene, which encodes subunit 1 of cytochrome c oxidase), and 2) develop revisionário study of sections through the reassessment of the taxonomic characters for species diagnosis are recognized around the globe in the light of new molecular data. The proposed project presents issues of great relevance, namely: 1) it is a systematic work involving broad morphological and molecular study of two groups representing rodófitas continental to tropical and subtropical regions, 2) provide valuable information for comparative analyzes of systematic rodófitas continental, especially the order Batrachospermales; still provide valuable information for approaches continental algal biodiversity in tropical regions, as well as the potential application areas for conservation and biomonitoring in aquatic environments.
