Abstract

Chronic kidney Disease (CKD) may accomplish the elders and make them dependent to hemodialysis. Such condition interfere and limit their everyday lives causing alterations which commits them physically, psychologically and emotionally, affecting their personal, familiar and social lives, besides changing their habits and every day costumes. Studies have pointed out the spirituality/ religiousness associated to Best health indexes, including longer longevity, ability of managing life quality. This research aims to characterize elders with CKD under hemodialysis treatment at a public dialysis unit in Ribeirão Preto-SP; evaluate the spirituality/religiousness of these elders; evaluate their struggling against the illness and life quality of these elders. It will be a transversal, exploratory study with quantitative approach. The study Will be held at the Dialysis Unit from the Hospital das Clínicas, (Unidade de Diálise do Hospital das Clínicas da Faculdade de Medicina de Ribeirão Preto da Universidade de São Paulo (HCFMRP-USP)). The participants of this study will be elders, with CKD, which make regular hemodialitic treatment. The technique to be used for collecting data Will be interviews, with application of five instruments: questionnaire related to the sociodemographic situation, economic, religious, and health of the elder; questionnaire of life quality WHO Quality of Life - BREF (WHOQOL- bref) and WHO Quality of Life - OLD (WHOQOL-old) and WHO Quality of Life - Spirituality, Religiousness and Personal Beliefs (WHOQOL - SRPB), and Coping Scale for Religiousness and Spirituality (CRS). For data analysis the descriptive statistics will be used, by means of tables, graphics and descriptive measurement, as well as statistic tests and/or appropriate regression models for analyzing the influence of spirituality/religiousness on struggling and in life quality of elders from the study (AU)
