Abstract

Nowdays, the use of sinthetic hair dyes has increased. Many of these dyes belong to the class of azo dyes (-N=N-). It is known that aromatic amines can be generated after the breakage of the azo group leading to toxic compounds that may be harmfull to human beings and animals.According to the literature, some aromatic amines can be absorbed by the skin leading to mutagenic, carcinogenicity and alergic reactions. For that purpose, considering the intense use of these dyes, we suggest that it is necessary to better evaluate the toxic properties of these commercial dyes. This project proposes the analisys of two toxicological pathways that will investigate the potential of inducing DNA adducts on keratinocytes as well as the investigation of the imunotoxicity of the hair dyes Basic Red 51 and Basic Yellow 57. We expect that the results of this work will lead to new findings of toxicologycal data that will contribute to the development of more safe commercial products. (AU)
