Abstract

Throughout the extensive intellectual production of Francisco de Oliveira is possible to find references to some french thinkers. Among them, there is the philosopher Jacques Rancière, author of essays on politics that inspired the seminar "A construção democrática em questão", conducted by the Núcleo de Estudos dos Direitos da Cidadania at the time of its foundation. That debate and a research resulted in a book, Os sentidos da democracia, organized by Oliveira and Maria Celia Paoli. Reflections on consensus and dissension in political practice, suggested by Rancière, have appreciable influence on the texts that produced Oliveira about the advance of neoliberalism in Brazil. More recently, another french cientist, Francois Chesnais, also ran in his writings. Economist, author of A mundialização do Capital and A mundialização financeira is often cited by Oliveira when he observes the transformations of capitalism in recent decades and its effects on Brazilian society. These and other references from France force us to look closely at the period in which Oliveira was in France to do their postdoctoral, between 1982 and 1984. During the research stage that I want to accomplish in that country I will seek to deepen the knowledge about some works that influenced the thinking of Francisco de Oliveira, and beyond, to know the tone of current debates about important subjects to our author, as development, democracy and the changes in capitalism.
