Abstract

In analyzes conducted until now in the PhD project, it was found through analysis of linear correlations between SST anomalies in predetermined regions in the Atlantic Ocean and precipitation anomalies in southeastern Brazil, there is a relationship between dry extreme events and SST variability in the South Atlantic Ocean in winter (June, July and August).Analysis using the method of Singular Value Decomposition (SVD) also showed that this relationship exists. The analysis of heterogeneous correlation maps from the calculation of the SVD using precipitation anomalies and SST anomalies show where these relationships occur. Negative precipitation anomalies in southeastern Brazil appear to be associated with positive SST anomalies in the region 35 ° S - 50 º S and 60 º W-35 ° W.Clearly, a better characterization of the extreme dry events it becomes necessary to improve the work, as well as the use of a global climate model simulations to evaluate the findings. The same model can be used with projections of future climate to assess and compare the occurrence of these events in future periods. (AU)
