Abstract

Antibiotics are widely used as antimicrobial agents in animals and humans. Many of these molecules are not completely metabolized by the body and they are inserted in the environment through the generated waste. These compounds are found in soil and water and they can promote the resistance of antibiotic in microorganisms, and they are toxic to certain organisms. The aim of this project is to develop procedures for sample preparation hyphenated with sequential injection chromatography for the determination of ²-lactam antibiotics in water. For the development of analytical procedures, we intend to employ procedures for solid phase or liquid-liquid microextraction in order to minimize the sample and solvent consumption and waste generation, economic and environmental important factors. The hyphenation with sequential injection chromatography systems may enable the development of faster, cheaper and environmentally friendly procedures for the determination of antibiotics in water due to the possibility of managing mobile phases and reagents.
