Abstract

HIV testing brings together a variety of principles and ethical procedures related to privacy and confidentiality, as well as the rights to health, information, and non-discrimination. Considering the general objective of the research - to analyze psychosocial aspects in HIV testing decision-making among youth - the aim of this internship proposal at the Program on Global Health and Human Rights is to analyze the empirical data using human rights framework and its intersection between sexual and reproductive health and HIV prevention among youth. The intended period for the internship is from October/2012 to March/2013 (six months). Main activities comprise: 1) to keep ongoing analysis of empirical data according to analytical categories of the study, 2) review of literature related to human rights framework, 3) observation of ongoing projects at the Program on Global Health and Human Rights, and 4) paper on adolescents' right to sexual and reproductive health and intersection with HIV prevention educational policies in Brazil. The analysis will be based on transcripts of 39 interviews and three focus groups with adolescents, as well as international documents on health and human rights, more specifically in the field of HIV prevention and adolescent sexual and reproductive health. The rights related to HIV testing among youth will be identified in the empirical data, particularly those related to sexual and reproductive rights, as well as the rights to health, life, information, and non-discrimination.
