The production of tambaqui (Colossoma macropomum), as well as of most aquatic organisms, depends mainly on artificial foods, and food is generally more significant fraction of operating costs. This makes studies on the nutritional requirements of aquatic species essential to the development of aquaculture. In this context, research on the digestive mechanism and the fate of the end products of digestion can contribute to the use of diets with more cost-effective as well as benefit a comparative study of tropical fish. Thus, the optimal amount of dietary carbohydrates and lipids with a consequent reduction in the level of protein is a promising prospect to meet the energy demand in fish and spare dietary protein for growth. Thus, the project will be conducted with tambaqui in the early stages of growth, and aims to obtain information on performance, body composition, metabolic profile and isotopic turnover of carbon (13C) and deuterium (2H) in muscle, in the liver and visceral fat in response to different rates carbohydrate/lipid diets, aiming at improving their nutritional requirements.
