Abstract

This project is part of my Postdoctoral research proposal which is included in the Thematic Project "The transatlantic circulation of printed matter: the globalization of culture in the 19th Century". In this part of the research, the aim is to collect secondary sources published in France that concern the reading, the reception and the criticism of 19th century novels, as well as initiate, according to these sources, the collection of critical texts available in magazines and periodicals published between 1830 and 1870 about novels also from this scope of time. The main libraries offering the materials for this phase are the Bibliothèque Nationale de France, the Bibliothèque de l'Arsenal and the bibliothèque Sainte-Geneviève, with punctual visits to university libraries. During this internship abroad, I will also work with Louise Pavan, who is a beginning researcher developing a similar project in the Iniciação Científica level. The stay in France will equally provide important aid to the project because of the contact with Prof. Dr. Jean-Yves Mollier from Université de Versailles Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines who will supervise our research. Finally, as part of my activities as a Postdoctoral researcher, and always considering the perspective of the Thematic Project, the plan includes my participation in the International Seminar "Cânone, Margem e Periferia nos Espaços de Língua Portuguesa", which will happen on December 17th and 18th, 2012 at the Universidade de Lisboa.
