Abstract

The objectives will be to evaluate clinical aspects of topical application of copaiba oil on the healing process of experimentally induced wounds in lumbar and metacarpal areas of healthy horses. Eight adult horses will be used. Four wounds will be surgically produced on each horse: two wounds cranial to the sacrum of the right lumbar region and two wounds close to the proximal epiphysis of the right metacarpus on the lateral aspect. The experimental lesions will be treated daily with copaiba oil, whereas saline solution was used in control lesions. Macroscopic analyses will be performed on tissue harvested at 3, 7, 14, and 21 days, Complete healing time for all wounds was recorded. (AU)
