Transcultural adaptation to Portuguese and validity of the revised Fibromyalgia Impact Questionnaire (FIQ-R)

Abstract

The Fibromyalgia Impact Questionnaire (FIQ) is the most used tool in the literature to assess the impact of fibromyalgia in the lives of those affected. However, a new version of the FIQ (FIQ-R) which the missing aspects of the original version were included was released, imposing the necessity to conducting a process of transcultural adaptation to use the instrument in Brazil. The aim of this work is to perform the adaptation to Portuguese of the FIQ-R in patients with fibromyalgia at Hospital das Clínicas da Faculdade de Medicina de Ribeirão Preto/ USP. Fibromyalgia patients will be recruited between the ages of 18 and 55 years. The method used in cross-cultural adaptation and face validation will be the recommended by Beaton that includes the following phases: initial translation into Portuguese, synthesis of translations with consensus of the translators, back-translation, the Committee of Experts and testing of pre-final version of the questionnaire. For face validity will be selected 30 volunteers to respond to pre-final version of the questionnaire. Adaptation and validation of the FIQ-R into Portuguese will make available for use a reviewed and specific instrument for assessing disability and functionality of individuals with fibromyalgia by other researchers and clinicians in Brazil. Therefore, it will assist in operationalization of prevention, evaluation and treatment of these individuals, as well as make it possible to internationalize the Brazilian researches involving these patients.(AU)
