Abstract

Premature ovarian failure (POF) causes consequences related to a prolonged state of hypoestrogenism, with a precise indication of hormone replacement therapy to minimize such changes. Studies in postmenopausal women and risk of breast cancer bring concerns and decrease adherence of women with POF to hormonal treatment, and there are few studies on the action of the hormone medication on the breast of these women Objective: To assess the effects of hormone therapy with estrogen associated with progestogen on breast density in women with premature ovarian failure. Subjects and Methods: There will be a study of women diagnosed with FOP in the Clinic of Gynecology, Department of Endocrine Gynecology, Faculty of Medical Sciences, Unicamp in the last ten years, use of hormone therapy with E + P, which performed mammogram in the outpatient attendances over the years in at least two stages, with a difference of 3 or more years. It will be compared with the first mammogram performed the last available to every woman. After locating these mammograms in the SAME institution, the analysis will be done by a breast cancer specialist, blindly, without information on the time of mammography, which classifies mammographic density by the method of Wolfe, and mark the areas to be scanned for posteriomente quantification by scanning technique of mammographic images. Data also will be collected in time gonadal failure, age, parity, time and type of use of hormone therapy, BMI at every moment, beyond the time between mammograms. Statistical Analysis: The data will be evaluated by mean, standard deviation, median, and prevalence (nominal variables). Comparison of breast density before and after treatment will be assessed by the paired Student t-test (for interval measure) and using the chi-square McNemar (for criterion WOLF). It will be assumed a significance level of 5% and the software used for analysis will be the SAS version 9.2. (AU)
